Lay 76 Humane Foot Hold Trap Quick Release and Safety
The only trap on the market with a patented quick release ability. This unique feature allows for faster and safer release of both target animals and not target, incidental catches with a simple wrench.
With any half inch (1/2 inch) wrench or socket, the pressure of one or both springs of the Lay 76 can be relaxed in order to allow the easy release of an animal. On the bottom of the traps there are four hex nuts that correspond to the u-bolt fasteners that retain the coil springs on the trap. If ever an animal needs to be released in a quick and easy manner, simply gain access to the four hex nuts and loosen them only a few turns each and the springs will fully release all pressure.

With the certification granted to the Lay 76 Laminated, spring pressure must be adjusted and set at time of assembly to a certified level. The Lay 76 Laminated has a small light duty weld on the shaft of the coil spring. This allows the operator to confirm spring tension is at the correct allowable level, yet still release the springs if necessary by simply loosening the half inch hex nuts under the trap and giving a slight twist to the spring shaft to release the small weld. When resetting the spring power the remains of the original weld can be used for a reference to the set the spring tension at the correct level.

Black Bear safely removed and released from a Lay 76 humane foot hold trap without the use of chemicals on the bear. This demonstrates one of the many advantages available due to the safety release feature of the Lay 76 trap. Please note this technique is not recommended and should not be attempted by anyone other than a trained professional.
